About the Website

Built From the Heart

The Designer

Hi there, I am the guy who built the website. My name is stu, and you can contact me at . I have built a number of websites, such as easypostcard.com, frea.cc and oryx excursions.

The Site

In building this site, I have tried to achieve a couple of things. First, it needed to have lots of information. The backpacker hostel can be very busy, and the staff haven't got time to sit there answering emails all day, so the site had to answer as many questions as possible. Secondly, it had to be quick to load. Many people will be accessing this from internet cafes where they are paying money that should be spent on holiday activities, so they don't want to sit there waiting for lots of pictures to load. Next, it had to be simple to navigate. I have put in a menu across the top, as well as one down the side. Someone can simply use the one at the top, and ignore the one at the side, and still get the information they need.

The Design

This site had to reflect the hostel in some way. If it was too conservative, then the hostel wouldn't come across as the fun place it is. If everything matched perfectly, then people would go to the hostel expecting the carpet to match the curtains. They don't, so I didn't either.

The Functionality

As I said, the menus can be used in a couple of ways. Also there is a related question section on each page, in an attempt to answer whatever query people have. Every page has the same header and menu, to make sure that once it is learned, it is easy to navigate. No frames have been used for this, because they suck!

Your Views

The funny thing about this site is that I'm not really sure if it is incredibly ugly or not. At first glance I think it is, but now I feel comfortable with it. I'd love to know what other people think. Please email me and let me know what you think. Thanks. stu
